MISSION
Aloney Yitzhak is a six-year residential educational institution committed to helping its students excel in learning and become well-rounded human beings who are aware of the need and obligation to contribute to the society in which they live. HISTORY AND BACKGROUND Aloney Yitzhak Youth Village, located in a nature reserve in the central part of the country 10 kilometers from Caesarea, was founded in 1948. In the early days of its development Aloney Yitzhak absorbed children from Europe who had been rescued from the Holocaust and who flowed in large numbers to the shores of the young State of Israel under the auspices of Youth Aliyah.
Throughout the years, Aloney Yitzhak has absorbed children of the different "aliyot" (immigrations). There was the mass immigration of the 1950s when children arrived from North Africa and as far off as India. In the 1960s came the immigrants from Eastern Europe, as well as North Africa. Towards the end of the 60s, there were the children from North America, South America and Turkey. In the early 1970s came the Russian children, children of the “Prisoners of Zion,” many of whom were in their final years of high school. Following the Russian children came the Iranian children, as Humeini threatened their very well-being. Later, children from embattled Yugoslavia found their way to Israel. More recently, newcomers from Bulgaria, Hungary, Ethiopia, South and Central America have found their way to Aloney Yitzhak which continues to serve the children by providing them with an opportunity to receive a quality education, shelter and care.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM Aloney Yitzhak is fully accredited by the Ministry of Education. As such, students prepare for the State Matriculation examinations, which are administered at the end of the twelfth year. The fact that our students have enjoyed academic achievements above the national average in recent years, testifies to the dedication of both the students and staff to the task of learning. CULTURAL DIVERSITY With 400 students from 20 countries including Israel, the children of the village are exposed to a unique cultural mixture that prepares them for life in the mosaic of Israeli society. Children from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds grow together, help and learn from each other in the most natural of settings. In this respect, Aloney Yitzhak is a microcosm of life in Israel.
A NEW LANGUAGE The ULPAN, a total immersion program, conducts classes in Hebrew for the newcomers, providing them with facility in the language. They study in the ULPAN classes for the first three to six months of their lives in Israel, steadily improving their Hebrew skills, until they are gradually mainstreamed into regular classes. KLEEMAN LEARNING CENTER
The Kleeman Learning Center, located in the heart of the Village, is open after school hours. In their free time and, most importantly, at their own initiative, children visit the Center which offers them the opportunity to explore areas of interest to them with the help of computers, educational compact discs and video films, as well as full, unlimited access to the Internet. In addition, experienced instructors give extracurricular courses in multimedia and video editing at the Center MUSIC AND SPORTS
We believe that both music and sports are excellent ways to help children acquire self-discipline in a pleasant manner, increase their chances for self-expression and satisfy their creative needs. With this in mind, we have directed major efforts towards providing the children with adequate facilities for sports and music activities.
Two basketball courts, two tennis courts, a soccer field, outdoor swimming pool and physical fitness room are the main facilities maintained by the Village. The Music Center and Amphitheater complex are the focus of the Village´s music activities. The music program is divided into two areas, extra-curricular activities and the formal music stream at school. As part of the enrichment program, students are given the opportunity to learn to play musical instruments such as classical and modern guitar, violin, cello, piano, keyboard, drums, clarinet, saxophone, flute, trumpet and accordion. In addition, by studying music theory, music history and other relevant topics, and preparing an independent project in the formal music program, students complete the necessary requirements leading to a full matriculation certificate in music. The study of voice is part of both the formal and informal music programs. WORK Since work is regarded as a vital part of their education at Aloney Yitzhak, all children in the Village work about six hours a week. We feel that through work children acquire a sense of team spirit and responsibility for the place which represents their home for so much of their school life. JEWISH TRADITION In keeping with Jewish tradition, Aloney Yitzhak observes all of the Jewish holidays and festivals. The children are given the opportunity to experience the beauty and meaning of the holidays firsthand. In the dining room, the traditional welcoming of the Sabbath, Kabbalat Shabbat, adds a unique dimension of festivity at week´s end.
